Denmark has many Christmas traditions and one of the most important is celebrating Advent. Charlotte celebrated Advent growing up and it is a time to celebrate the coming Christ. The four Sundays before Christmas Day constitutes Advent. In Charlotte’s home, the tradition was to eat æbleskiver and drink non-alcoholic gløgg on Advent Sundays. Since today is the first Sunday of Avent, Danes light the first candle in the wreath and in fact, most Danes have their wreath hanging from the ceiling! Enjoy eating some æbleskiver today by going to Trader Joes and picking some up from the freezer section, or here’s the link to a recipe.
