What is Christmas about in your family? For my two sweet little ones, it can be a hectic time of year when they are pulled in numerous directions, away from the sweet baby in a manger who came as a ransom for many. I’ve listened as many moms ponder the same dilemna: How do I keep Christmas about Christ for my kids? How do I pull their attention away from themselves and toward God’s gift in the manger?
Oh, how I love this story! The Blessing Nisser is a heartwarming Christmas story that will inspire children and adults alike to look for creative and tangible ways ways to serve and show love to those around them. The story is about a little Danish girl named Charlotte and the Blessing Nisser, who, through their acts of kindness, are able to soften the hearts of her brother and her grumpy, old neighbor. While many are focused on the Christmas presents, Charlotte is only concerned with blessing those around her. Kirstie Marx is able to capture perfectly the delights, traditions, and culture of a magical Scandinavian Christmas. As soon as I read this story, I immediately wanted to share it with the young families I know. The Blessing Nisser is a wonderful reminder of what we should be focused on during the Christmas season. This charming tale is sure to become a family tradition!
“Like sugar crystals sprinkled on your Christmas Cookie, this sweet story of Christ’s love shines above all of the holiday distraction. Kirstie’s love for children and her intimate knowledge of Danish traditions brings us right into the heart of Scandinavia – and face to face with the blessing Nissers! Imagine that, Nisser that bring blessing instead of mischief. This delightful tale will change how you and your children approach Christmas. Let Kirstie’s gift of generosity help you and your family establish traditions that can be passed from generation to generation, year after year.
Here is something new and exciting for your children this Christmas season–the Blessing Nissers. While they are cute and whimsical, at the same time, they present a powerful message about Jesus and His teaching to love and serve others. In addition, the story is interwoven with Danish Christmas traditions, Danish history, and geography. The Nissers and the heroine, Charlotte, engage children on many levels while they read this delightful and unforgettable tale. The story combines learning and doing by showing children how to serve and love others in tangible, easy, and fun ways–which is, after all, the very heart of Christ and Christmas. So, if you are looking for something to bring your family closer to the heart of Christmas, this is it.
This sweet story weaves together three of my favorite things: Christmas, learning about traditions from other countries, and encouragement to actively love others in gratitude to God, Who loves us! How I wish I’d had this book when my children were young, but maybe it’s not too late for the “Blessing Nisser” to make an appearance at our house this December! I encourage you to make this your new Christmas book, learn about the holiday in Denmark, and become the “Blessing Nisser” in the lives of those around you – all December (and all year) long! ‘And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works.’ Hebrews 10:24

Kirstie’s children’s book is a reflection of her own experiences and heart. Written from a deep desire to see Christ proclaimed and others blessed with the unconditional love of the Savior, she introduces us to the Blessing Nisser. These mythical characters teach children how to love unconditionally and bless others, reminding them that “it’s more blessed to give than receive”, and it’s the best way to the heart. The Blessing Nisser will be a Christmas tradition of blessing others that your children will want to follow, unlocking the love of Christ to a darkened world. A wonderful Christmas tradition for a lifetime.
As a mom and grandmum, I am always looking for ways to teach my wee ones good values and help them become people of good character. In a world of elves on shelves and harry potters, I often find this difficult. I was privileged to read an early copy of the Blessing Nisser. Here is a book with a solid message for children of all ages. It will entertain and delight any child 3 to 13 with its simple but profound tale. Along with the book are activities to do throughout the Christmas season to instill the traditional, Christian values I want them to have . The Blessing Nisser is an easy and fun way for parents and grandparents to enjoy time with their children while encouraging acts of love within any family. I highly recommend this book.
